About Hipchecks

A girl who loves hockey, hipchecks, and all things goalies (except our own).

Current player obsession: Petr Prucha. Pruuuuuuu!

I grew up in Wisconsin and then smartened up & moved to Phoenix for the weather. I hate snow and ice. Unless it's hockey ice.

I love being able to watch hockey in 90 degree weather. Fan-freaking-tatic! Unless you try wearing a jersey in 90 degree weather.

I have the best of both worlds.

I also love music and marry my two obsessions. I try making song lyrics/titles part of every blog post and sometimes make up songs about hockey.

5-3. The final score in the USA/Canada round one men's hockey game. I am shaking and want to cry tears of joy. I know, it's not 1980 and we haven't won the gold.... yet. I need to get a grip. Will this be the year that America relives the 1980 Miracle on Ice? There is a good chance that we might! We came in to the Olympics as the underdogs, will we come out with the gold?

This is a game all non-hockey fans should have been required to watch. It would have made them fans. It was an amazing game. The last 10 minutes were edge of your seat, nail-biting, Coyotes in a shoot-out kind of game. I was freaking out and swearing at the tv. When USA got the empty netter, I screamed so loud I am sure the whole neighborhood heard! And I scratched my throat. Ouch!

The heroes of the game? Brian Rafalski and Ryan Miller with a side of Ryan Suter and Ryan Kesler. I must say my former Badgers were awesome! Way to go Rafalski and Suter. And Ryan Miller? He played out of his mind. He made the key saves, especially the last half of the third. The boys couldn't get the puck out so Ryan and to play balls to the walls. Some of his saves were just amazing.

And what sealed the deal? A beautiful empty net goal by Rayn Kesler.

Apparently it was the night for Ryan's and names that rhyme with Ryan.

This is one of those moments where I am so proud to be an American. You try to put us down? You tell us we are the underdog? We will work our asses off to show you we are the best!

Wow, just wow. I cannot wait for the rest of the games. USA went undefeated in round one. Can we keep that up? Just win them all?? That would be amazing.

Oh Ryan Miller, I loved you before and now everyone is loving you. People were tweeting like crazy and I kept going, "I've been saying this for YEARS". People really need to start listening to me more. I said I wanted a Team USA jersey and would make it a Ryan Miller jersey. Now I really want one! Keep up the amazing work Miller!
